Position Description

• Perform and coordinate field inspections and investigations under supervision of a project engineer, including on-site direction of geotechnical drilling activities
• Monitor construction operations, including earthwork, dewatering, and excavation support installations and prepare engineering field reports.
• Inspect test borings, test pits, monitoring wells, and install and read geotechnical instrumentation.
• Conduct laboratory and field testing of soils.
• Perform a variety of engineering analysis and calculations, with and without the use of engineering software
• Assist with the preparation of technical proposals, cost estimates, plans, technical specifications, and reports, including day to day correspondence
• Prepare initial versions of technical reports and evaluations
• Work in a team environment as well as independently, demonstrate team-oriented approach to problem-solving, and have strong interpersonal skills for contact with clients and fellow engineers/technicians

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from a 4-year accredited college or university.
• Ability to communicate professionally, both verbally and in written format.
• Minimal proficiency in CADD.

• Accuracy, dependability, and strong organizational skills.
• Must hold a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation

Position Description

Our internship program is designed to give hands-on experience to students to build a variety of skills including field data gathering, working with a mentor for construction engineering oversite, lab testing, engineering analysis and providing engineering support to Project Managers.

• Candidate must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil engineering

• Expected graduation within a year of the start of the internship

Position Description

• Ability to develop comprehensive CAD design drawings from sketches and other drawing markups. Includes cutting sections, producing elevations and developing details based on direction from engineering staff.
• Ability to package drawings into a concise drawing/design set, including preliminary drawings, final drawings, and construction record drawings, according to civil engineering practice standards.
• Ability to package and deliver FK Engineering’s CAD standards for use on projects by outside parties (i.e., clients, subconsultants, etc.) who would like to adopt or use our standards.
• Ability to integrate CAD work provided by others. This may include anything from converting files to our standard and/or supplying tools that allow others to use our description key codes for actual survey pickup.
• Serve as a technical resource to staff for specific CAD questions including troubleshooting individual or interdisciplinary CAD related problems.
• Implement template changes and ensure new templates are communicated and pushed out to the entire company.

Education

• Minimum of Associate of Applied Science degree in Computer Aided Design and Drafting preferred.

Skills/Experience

• 2 years of experience in CADD operation for civil engineering design.
• Experience producing top/site plans and structural design drawings.
• Ability to read and understand plans and specifications.
• Experience in Civil 3D preferred.
• Serve as a technical resource to staff for specific CAD questions including troubleshooting individual or interdisciplinary CAD related problems.
• Implement template changes and ensure new templates are communicated and pushed out to the entire company.
• Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills and good organizational skills.

Position Description

Facilitate the day to day operation of our Madison Heights Soil & Concrete Laboratory where your responsibilities will include testing and analysis of soil and concrete samples to further define their engineering characteristics and/or parameters.

Responsibilities

Perform soil and concrete laboratory testing according to standardized (ASTM) procedures.
Develop and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) for soil and concrete tests.
Train new staff in laboratory testing procedures.
Perform data entry and prepare laboratory test reports.
Clean, organize, and restock the laboratory as needed.
Develop and maintain calibration logs for laboratory equipment.
Perform routine repairs and/or adjustments to laboratory testing equipment.
Other tasks as assigned.
Prepare technical reports and evaluations for review by Project Engineer/Manager.
Work with a positive attitude in a team environment as well as independently.
Demonstrate team-oriented approach to problem-solving.
May be required to perform job duties in the field and office.
Follow corporate Health and Safety protocols.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from a 4-year ABET accredited college or university.
2+ years of experience in a primary role involving soils and concrete testing is strongly recommended.
Proficient in MS Word and Excel. CAD skills preferred, but not required.
Prior experience in a soil and/or concrete testing laboratory.
Good knowledge of laboratory testing procedures (AASHTO, ASTM, etc.).
Ability to communicate professionally, both verbally and in written format.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, and thorough follow-through skills.
Accuracy, dependability and strong organizational skills.
Strong interpersonal skills for contact with clients and fellow engineers/technicians.
Exceptional time management skills, ability to manage multiple assignments at any given time,and have ability to work in a team environment.
Available to work standard working hours and occasional overtime and weekend hours as necessary.
